More About Becky...
I’ve never wanted to be just another brick in the wall of a conventional life by following the well-worn path of school > university > job > marriage > kids > part-time work > return to work > retire.
Although I stayed in education because I wanted to understand more about how the world worked, travelled a lot to expand my horizons and see what else is out there, and chose certain jobs such as working for a Disability trainer because they felt more meaningful than ‘just for money’, I’ve still felt the pull to keep trying to ‘fit in’.
Along the way, my body has given me many signs that constantly trying to fit in just wasn’t for me…by my mid-thirties, I was in severe pain and experiencing chronic fatigue.
As I finally began to listen to the voice inside me, I began to make some changes: Qualifying as a Louise Hay metaphysical teacher, experimenting with a range of alternative therapies and practising breathwork, meditation, EFT (tapping), manifesting and affirmations. But still there was a block, especially when it came to moving forward with my career.
It wasn’t until I had Rapid Transformational Therapy in my forties that I started to understand this block. I discovered that an incident when I was 4 or 5 (a parent ‘tested’ me to see if I was a ‘genius’ and I didn’t pass muster!) led to me creating a range of faulty narratives that have been sabotaging me ever since, especially this one: If I’m not instantly amazing at something, I’m not good enough and I never will be!
Enough is enough! Now I’m 50, it’s time to:
- Trust my inner voice which knows exactly what I do and don’t want to do!
- Stop judging myself for wanting to live life on my own terms and define my own normal.
- Take more risks professionally instead of avoiding moving forward out of some misguided belief that it keeps me safe!
What does this look like? It means…
- Sharing this journey more publicly; want to follow along? Subscribe to the blog.
- Unleashing – unapologetically – my creative desires; whether that’s in the form of poetry, sharing discoveries around topics I’m also working on for myself (such as money and abundance), creating marketing and branding materials for fellow rebels or revelling in the delights of creating my own rhyming stories.
I’m no longer going to feel guilty, ashamed or hide behind the narratives that are most definitely not keeping me safe anymore!
is vBecky in Bullets…
- Apart from the mistaken pate incident, a bacon sandwich lapse and a year of trying to do the Wahls protocol (and failing. Organ meats. Ugh.) I’ve been veggie since I was 11.
- I’ve had a LOT of therapy including Gestalt, Person Centred and Psychodynamic.
- I have two wonderful children. I gave birth to my eldest (10lb 2 oz!) at home in a birth pool, and my youngest was a natural breech.
- I currently experience fibromyalgia which causes fatigue and chronic pain all over the body. I fully believe I can heal from this and understand why my body created it.
- I’ve always wanted to live in a commune and have tried this out several times!
- I have a first-class degree and a Masters and was taught by Germaine Greer.
- I once bought a Grade 2 listed cottage at an auction and paid the deposit on a credit card.
- I’ve been to Glastonbury festival 8 times (all through the mud years!).
- I used to work for a Disability Equality Trainer who later became a famous U.K. actor.
- I love eating and my favourite food is eggs! Endlessly versatile and delicious, they stop me being vegan although I think I might be allergic to them!
- My claim to fame is that I have stayed with one of the 118 118 advert actors who is an amazing pianist!
- I love the music of Kate Rusby, my favourite film is The Shawshank Redemption and my fave book is Poo In The Zoo.
- I’m a Piscean and the poster girl for my watery, emotional, dreamy sign. @costarastrology is always hilariously spot on!
- I am a qualified Louise Hay Teacher.
- I finally came out age 42 with a close friend who became my wife.
- I love playing backgammon although no one else ever plays!
- I love learning new random interesting things. For example, did you know that the walrus, (or tooth walking sea horse as it’s known in Latin!) can sing? That the most expensive coffee in the world is made of poo…literally? Or that some mammals can pause their pregnancy?!
